We went here on a Saturday mid morning in August and it was not busy at all. You can stand up paddle board, kayak and canoe here but there is no swimming allowed. There is currently construction on the dam that you can hear all around the lake. We were told that the dam project will take 5 years. The park is free! They also have a shuttle that takes your paddle boards and kayaks down to the water for you which is great because there is a decent walk down to the water. There’s a short hike along the water that was really enjoyable.

Great day trip from Denver. The South side is closed. They are raising the dam, so that side will be closed for approximately 5 years. The north side is open. And they have access to the reservoir from there. They have a shuttle if you have paddle boards. You can bring your dogs just make sure they don't go into the water.

It is super magical place, you need a truck to get to the dispersed campsites, they have drive in sites and a few more where you park and walk-in or bike in... #29 was pretty magical site with some hidden gems about it including a private little flat area for a tent snuggled on the point .. lots of hammock options #24 is also pretty magical for a solo person
